Are you having trouble finding a single-layer kimono?
Due to changes in temperature, the time to wear hito-mo, which was previously June and September, has been revised, and recently it has become acceptable to wear hito-mo on warm days even in May or October. This means that hito-mo is worn for one-third of the year. When the temperature is more than just warm, but hot, you'll want to choose a hito-mo in a cool color. This fabric is perfect for such purposes.

This is a small pattern with safflower base dyed fabric overlaid with pine soot dye.
The warp threads of the fabric are woven with spring tsumugi threads. The tsumugi threads are dyed with safflower before weaving, and then dyed with pine soot.

Why do we go through these processes? Why do we use spring tsumugi?

One, because of the color.
Pine soot dyeing uses pine soot and soybean juice (gojiru) to fix the color, resulting in an elegant gray. This gray color is attractive, but it can also be too wabi (traditional Japanese craftsmanship) and give off a slightly cold impression. Therefore, by using a base dye of warm safflower, an indigo blue with an exquisite gray color is created.

One reason is the texture of the tsumugi thread.
Zenmai Tsumugi is made by mixing spring fluff with silk floss to create thread. This knotty texture is a distinctive feature, but the spring fluff is also strong and water-resistant, so much so that it is used as material for fly hooks in mountain stream fishing. Because it is water-resistant, meaning it is difficult to dye, the knotty texture of the Tsumugi can be emphasized even when stencil-dyed.

The knotty texture of the safflower-dyed spring thread. Using spring tsumugi thread as the warp thread creates an elegant look. Both spring tsumugi and safflower dyeing are woven at the Nagai Tsumugi workshop in Yamagata Prefecture, the home of the fabric.

About pearl tone processing

The pearl tone processing penetrates into each and every fiber, repelling moisture like beads.
It is resistant to dirt and even if it does get dirty, it is easy to clean.
Unlike waterproof processing that applies a membrane, this processing does not lose the original texture, luster, and breathability of the fabric, maintaining the original comfort of the kimono.
It also has the effect of preventing mold growth, so if you process it at the beginning, you can save on maintenance costs later.

1. Height 2. Sleeve length Spread your arms at a 45° angle, press your arms from the base of your neck (cervical point) to your shoulders, and measure from the point where your wrists are covered by your ankles.
The length may differ between the left and right sides, so please measure both sides.

Returns Policy

If the product is defective, dirty, or damaged, we will refund the full amount of the product price, shipping fee, and consumption tax.
