Your staple

I won't go into too much detail here about the usefulness of gray tsumugi, but it can be a lifesaver when you're in a pinch, as it can accommodate a wide range of obi, from light to dark colors. You might even be able to wear that obi you fell in love with at first sight but couldn't find a kimono to go with it.

Plain grey tsumugi is easy to coordinate and can be worn for a long time. It will become your standard.

The charm of Ushiku Tsumugi is the taste of the knots in the dupioni thread and the glossiness of the regular checkered pattern.
This is a profound product that combines two seemingly contradictory textures.

Ushiku Tsumugi has its roots in being a durable, long-lasting everyday garment, making it a tsumugi worthy of being used as a classic for many years to come.

About Ushiku Tsumugi

The charm of Ushiku Tsumugi lies above all in the texture of the small knots created by the dupioni thread.
It is characterized by the weft being made from hand-spun thread (dupioni) made from precious cocoons containing two silkworms called tamamayu.

This textile originated in a mountain village in Ishikawa Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Hakusan, an area with heavy snowfall, and has a history of approximately 800 years.
Originally, it was made for personal use by farmers using discarded cocoons, but it became popular and was nicknamed "Nail-pulling Tsumugi" because it is so strong that "if it gets caught on a nail, the nail will come out."
A traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Ushiku Tsumugi is one of the three major Tsumugi fabrics, along with Oshima and Yuki.
Oshima Tsumugi has a crisp feel, while Yuki Tsumugi becomes softer the more you wear it. In contrast, Ushiku Tsumugi is a combination of dupioni silk and raw silk, and is both soft and durable for a comfortable feel.
Compared to Yuki and Oshima, which mainly feature pre-dyed kasuri patterns, Ushikubi is characterized by the wide variety of piece-dyed patterns.

Currently, Ushiku Tsumugi is produced by two companies: Nishiyama Sangyo's Hakusan Workshop and Kato Weaving Factory.

About pearl tone processing

*Please allow an additional week for delivery.

The pearl tone processing penetrates into each and every fiber, repelling moisture like beads.
It is resistant to dirt and even if it does get dirty, it is easy to clean.
Unlike waterproof processing that applies a membrane, this processing does not lose the original texture, luster, and breathability of the fabric, maintaining the original comfort of the kimono.
It also has the effect of preventing mold growth, so if you process it at the beginning, you can save on maintenance costs later.
