Tailoring

The history of Obiya Sutematsu, a long-established Nishijin store, features the legendary designer Yoshizo Tokuda. The previous owner of Obiya Sutematsu was a disciple of Yoshizo Tokuda. Under Yoshizo Tokuda, Obiya Sutematsu underwent a major change in direction, and its manufacturing still lives on in its dedication to creating designs.

The formula for creating new value is usually to combine existing values ​​A and B, and this also applies to traditional dyeing and weaving, which has historically incorporated imported patterns and techniques and elevated them into something uniquely Japanese.

It is difficult to say what Danish culture the designers at Nishijin Obiya Sutematsu incorporated into Japanese textiles. As it is a dantsu, it is likely handwoven, but it also reminds one of the beautiful geometric patterns that adorn the walls of Danish castles such as Frederiksborg Castle. In any case, this obi is unique to Obiya Sutematsu, which has assimilated foreign textile culture into Nishijin textiles.

Because fine colored threads are woven into the fabric, the geometric pattern does not appear monotonous and gives the fabric depth.

If you are ordering a custom-made garment for the first time, we will be happy to provide you with tips on taking measurements over the phone, so please feel free to contact us.

If you already have a kimono that has been tailored to your size, please let us know the measurements below. If you are unsure how to measure, we will provide you with instructions, so don't worry.

When ordering your kimono, we will ask you for the following measurements:

1. Height 2. Sleeve length Spread your arms at a 45° angle, press your arms from the base of your neck (cervical point) to your shoulders, and measure from the point where your wrists are covered by your ankles.
The length may differ between the left and right sides, so please measure both sides.

Returns Policy
